Weighing Productivity and Job Loss:

  • The first large-scale study of a ChatGPT-like AI assistant in the workplace revealed a surprising trend

  • Conducted on nearly 5,200 customer support agents at a Fortune 500 software firm

Findings:

  • positive outcomes 📈 across the board such as increased productivity, happier customers, and higher employee retention

    • Workers who utilized the tool were 14% more productive

    • Junior employees who utilized the tool were up to 35% more productive

Why this Matters:

  • Leveling the Playing Field: Contrary to fears of exacerbating inequality, AI is offering the biggest leg up to those traditionally lagging behind in the digital economy

    • This study highlights a shift from digital technologies only benefiting higher-skilled workers to aiding those less-skilled
